heGreat Falls Historical Society was organized in
1977 to promote community spirit by bringing the past into the
present. We do this through: monthly programs on local history and
people by local people who shaped history elsewhere, preservation
efforts, publication of historical essays, collection of artifacts
and photographs, oral history interviews, genealogical research, and
tours and dinners at historic sites. We hope you will join in our
activities and in supporting these efforts with your
membership.

February Program
THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY
AT SENECA ROAD & GEORGETOWN PIKE
Tanya Edwards Beauchamp
22 February 2012 - 7 pm
Great Falls Library, 9830 Georgetown Pike
n
September the Salem Baptist Church - located at the intersection of the Georgetown Pike,
Leesburg Pike & Seneca Road - succumbed to our unprecedented earthquake, hurricane, and 1000
year flood events.
The church was founded by the descendants of emancipated slaves Joseph and Anna Ford and
their daughter Lettie Ford Ellis.
The Great Falls Historical Society Board funded documentation of the building for the VA Dept.
of Historic Resources by architectural historian and preservation consultant Tanya Edwards
Beauchamp.
In celebration of Black History Month, Ms. Beauchamp will share her discoveries with our
Great Falls Historical Society membership.
